As a result, over a period of sustained growth, the commercial contracts side of the business has vastly expanded. Our services range from complete carpentry and joinery for new hotels, leisure clubs and restaurants to student accommodation blocks, call centres, Police headquarters, refits for major retail stores, medical centres, hospitals and international manufacturing companies.

 

Two recent major education projects awarded to Ian Williams Carpentry are UWE Faculty of Arts Bower Ashton in Bristol and Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard.

The £50 million project comprised of state of the art teaching facilities. The building is a concrete frame structure that houses a central glazed atrium providing both access and informal break out spaces.  Other features include six floors with a 300-seat tiered auditorium. There are two Harvard style lecture theatres, a city trading room and state of the art showcase law courts.

Pembroke Learning Campus

This £40 million super school opened in September 2016 for 1500 pupils aged between 3 - 16, it has replaced four former primary and secondary schools.

The Learning Zone project at The Works in Ebbw Vale was worth £27.6 million in total.


The project was part of a £350 million scheme, known as The Works, launched by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government to provide new education facilities, as well as a leisure centre, low carbon housing, general offices, Central Valley Wetland Park and an arts facility on the former steelworks site in Ebbw Vale.

SA1 Swansea University

Mendip Free School was constructed to  serve 120 students aged from 4 to 19 with autism, language and social communications needs.

 

Mendip Free School addresses the pressing need to provide a bespoke facility within Somerset to improve the educational outcomes for this vulnerable group of students. A single storey junior school with a high specification internal fit-out.

Llantwit Learning Community

The Llantwit Learning Community is an extensive development that comprises of  a remodelled Llantwit Major Comprehensive School, a new 420 place primary school formed from the amalgamation of Eagleswell and Llanilltud Fawr primary schools and expansion of Ysgol Dewi Sant to a 210 place school. The three schools are co-located on the same site.


 

Penarth Learning Community

The £48 million project saw the creation of two new schools in a single building on the site of St Cyres School in Penarth. As well as providing new facilities for St Cyres,the project  created a new SEN school Ysgol Y Deri. The SEN has been built to accomodate pupils from three existing Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools in the area.

 

A respite centre for SEN pupils and their parents has also been built on the site.

 

Atrium, USW

Further works to extend the ATRiuM building at The University of Wales. The extension included the extensive design studio facilities for illustration, advertising, graphic communication, TV and film set design and interior design. Two dance studios, drama rehearsal spaces and a substantial photographic studio. Additional image capture and finishing labs have  also been created, as well as new fabrication workshop facilities.

Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) has brought together world-leading expertise in brain mapping with the very latest in brain imaging and brain stimulation.  The £44m centre is one of Europe's flagship facilities.  It combines expertise in brain imaging techniques with the latest technology in imaging and stimulation, enabling researchers to rapidly test new ideas and theories.

Swansea University

Bay Campus Student accommodation comprised of 1462 student beds.  The accommodation was made up of cluster flats varying in size from four to eleven bedrooms, with a number of one and two bedroom apartments also available.


There are 12 wheelchair accessible rooms, some of which offer interjoining ‘buddy rooms’. In addition there is a quota of rooms available for visually and/or hearing impaired students.

 

Performing Arts Centre

The new centre has a 350-seat auditorium with retractable seating, an orchestra pit, and first and second floor balconies at its heart. Around this there are dance rehearsal spaces, back of house facilities and offices. 

St Teilos High School

The £26m investment was a joint venture between Cardiff Council and The Church in Wales.  It was funded by Cardiff Council's Schools Organisation programme and the Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools programme.  The school now houses over 1200 pupils.

 

The new school building provides first rate learning, sports and recreational facilities. St.Teilo’s also has an ambitious vision for ICT and is fully equipped with Wi-Fi throughout the school, including external spaces. A key design feature is the rounded façade which envelopes an outdoor area that takes the form of an amphitheatre, creating a place that can be used for socializing as well as holding outdoor events.
 

Merthyr Learning Quarter

The £33 million design has built a modern tertiary college as part of the 21st Century Schools programme in the centre of Merthyr Tydfil.

 

The Merthyr Learning Quarter is now the new home for sixth formers from the existing Merthyr Tydfil Further Education College and several other secondary schools in the county borough. It has been completed to Breeam excellent standard.

Coldmills School

Designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’, with sustainable design features including: a biomass fuelled heating system, solar thermal panels which provide domestic hot water and in low load period heat the pool, and a mixed mode ventilation strategy with high efficiency heat recovery. The Hotmill School aims to achieve 60% reduction against regulated carbon emissions.
