Community & Conservation Week

Wates - Community and Conservation Week is an annual event providing opportunities for us as a company to volunteer and support local projects and helping local communities.

This year as part of Wates’ Community & Conservation week in July, IWC were pleased to be invited along to assist on one of their current projects - St Marys the Virgin Primary School in Butetown.

The objective was to improve the outside play area for the nursery. Our supervisor Steve Slocombe was tasked with the planning and organised the materials, which were kindly donated free by our supplier Travis Perkins.

Following Steves's detailed plan our incredible carpenters James Quealey and John Williams constructed 2 mud kitchens, to add to the interactive play IWC purchased some kitchen accessories – stainless steel bowls, a selection of saucepans and wooden spoons transforming the outdoor play are into an outdoor social “mini chef’s kitchen”.

Two of our brilliant admin staff Ellie & Annemarie went along to assist with painting the very colourful wall mural and did and absolutely fabulous job. To complete the entire day John and James created 3 benches for the children to replace the logs they were currently using to sit on.

What a wonderful experience – Thank you Wates for allowing us to be part of a great initiative and thank you IWC staff for giving your time to participate.
